Market Research & Feasibility Studies

Client Overview A leading global manufacturing company sought to assess the feasibility and growth potential of its brewing-conditions monitoring system within the craft brewery industry.

Our Approach

  • 01
    Primary Research

Conducted in-depth interviews with three industry subject-matter experts to understand brewing practices, current technology use, and the specific needs of craft brewers. These interviews clarified where the pain points sit in the fermentation process and what role automated monitoring could realistically play in addressing them.

  • 02
    Secondary Research

Reviewed market reports and competitor offerings to map the broader landscape, evaluating how the system’s features compared with available alternatives on pricing, functionality and the problems brewers actually wanted solved. A directly comparable product was already on the market at a lower price point.

  • 03
    Feasibility Analysis

Assessed market size, demand trends and competitive position to gauge the system’s potential. The analysis found that while automation appeals to craft brewers, the financial case for a smaller brewery to adopt it is weak — interest and willingness to pay are not the same thing.

Key Findings
  • The craft brewery market, valued at $7.6 billion, has specific segments with growth potential despite a low overall market growth rate.

  • A directly comparable product was already available at a lower price point, limiting the system's room to compete on value.

  • While craft brewers expressed interest in automation, the financial incentives for a small brewery to adopt it are limited.

Outcome The study concluded that demand in the craft beer segment was not sufficient to support the growth the client was planning for, and said so. Competition on price and weak adoption economics at small-brewery scale made significant market penetration unlikely. The client had a documented basis for deciding where not to invest — which is what a feasibility study is for.
